A bit goopy-eyed and lost one ear in the motion, but Daniel was a beautiful cougar, Puma concolor. He had a lot of health issues, which was why he had to live at the animal sanctuary, and I miss him every day. You never forget the animals you work with who pass away. They all impact your life, and it never gets any easier.
On another note, cougars are amazing creatures, one of my favorites. While cougars are not exactly ‘small’, they are technically classified as small cats. The biggest reason is because they can purr, but the cannot roar. They are excellent hunters, living in territories as big as 500 square miles to one cougar. They also have the Guinness Book World Record for having the most names to one being, with over 40 different names just in English: cougar, puma, panther, mountain lion, and mountain screamer being a few.
