A day in the life of an Environmental Service Adventure (ESA) participant…It’s 8:30 p.m. on a dark, humid night in Akumal, Mexico. CEA presents about #turtleconservation putting ESA participants to the test of what they’ve learned so far. The clock hits 10, excitedly we start our turtle patrol. We quietly walk in pairs, letting the moonlight guide us. At nearly 11 at night we see our first green #seaturtle, scouting an area to make her nest. We distance ourselves, staring in silence and awe. This is the first time our participants have seen a sea turtle in person. The time rolls around to 12:30 a.m., many of the participants are fighting off sleep. We are about to call it a night, since we have another 30-minute drive back, when we hear CEA communicating that baby turtles are hatching. This gives us all a second wind. We got lucky to see 110 baby turtles journey their way to the open sea! This night will be etched in our memories, taking with us new knowledge about the sea, nature, and the vital role humans play in keeping balance in the ecosystem.⁣ ⁣⁣🦋✈️🐢♻️⠀⁣⁣⁣
📸 @espistudio
