Night creatures — Los Gatos, CA ??

A hulking mountain lion triggered my remote camera trap twice in the same place last week. This might be the most massive one I’ve ever recorded — he certainly rivals the size of his southern cousins in Patagonia. Here I have composited a full sized black-tailed deer buck for comparison. I always find it difficult to wrap my head around how big these cats are, so for me it helps to have this frame of reference. Although the buck stands taller at the shoulders, it’s not difficult to imagine the lion taking prey this size when you see them side by side.
.
.
The second clip is among the most rare footage I have recorded to date — five days later at the same site a lion can be seen sprinting down the trail. I can’t be sure if it’s the same individual, but it’s very possible. Is it chasing something or fleeing? Unfortunately I can’t make a determination from the footage. What do you think?
